Sensing with Earables

چکیده
Earables have emerged as a unique platform for ubiquitous computing by augmenting ear-worn devices with state-of-the-art sensing. This new has spurred wealth of research exploring what can be detected on wearable, small form factor. As sensing platform, the ears are less susceptible to motion artifacts and located in close proximity number important anatomical structures including brain, blood vessels, facial muscles which reveal information. They easily reached hands ear canal itself is affected mouth, face, head movements. We conducted systematic literature review 271 earable publications from ACM IEEE libraries. These were synthesized into an open-ended taxonomy 47 different phenomena that sensed in, on, or around ear. Through analysis, we identify 13 fundamental all other derived, discuss sensors principles used detect them. comprehensively four main areas (i) physiological monitoring health, (ii) movement activity, (iii) interaction, (iv) authentication identification. breadth highlights potential earables offer ubiquitous, general-purpose platform.

Sensorless Sensing with WiFi
Can WiFi signals be used for sensing purpose? The growing PHY layer capabilities of WiFi has made it possible to reuse WiFi signals for both communication and sensing. Sensing via WiFi would enable remote sensing without wearable sensors, simultaneous perception and data transmission without extra communication infrastructure, and contactless sensing in privacy-preserving mode. Due to the popul...
متن کاملAbductive Planning with Sensing
In abductive planning, plans are constructed as reasons for an agent to act: plans are demonstrations in logical theory of action that a goal will result assuming that given actions occur successfully. This paper shows how to construct plans abductively for an agent that can sense the world to augment its partial information. We use a formalism that explicitly refers not only to time but also t...
متن کاملSensing with Optimal Matrices
We consider the problem of designing optimal M × N (M ≤ N ) sensing matrices which minimize the maximum condition number of all the submatrices of K columns. Such matrices minimize the worst-case estimation errors when only K sensors out of N sensors are available for sensing at a given time. For M = 2 and matrices with unit-normed columns, this problem is equivalent to the problem of maximizin...
متن کاملSensing with TRP channels.
Drosophila melanogaster flies carrying the trp (transient receptor potential) mutation are rapidly blinded by bright light, because of the absence of a Ca2+-permeable ion channel in their photoreceptors. The identification of the trp gene and the search for homologs in yeast, flies, worms, zebrafish and mammals has led to the discovery of a large superfamily of related cation channels, named TR...
متن کاملPosition Sensing with Photodiodes
Position sensing photodiodes are detectors that provide quantitative information about the position of an incident light beam or spot image. There are currently two technologies that offer this functionality: multi-element photodiodes and position sensing (or lateral displacement) photodiodes. This article reviews the construction and operation of both types, discusses key considerations for op...
